MMA is like previously said a sport where you need to train in all different types of martial arts, so if you want to do MMA you should train in all. But if your looking on a good place to start, if your still in school wrestling is a good place to begin, and if your out of school it really depends on what you want to do. For more of a stand up hand striking, boxing may be the way to go. If you want a stand up leg and elbow striking than Muay Thai would be good. If you want ground game and submission jujitsu is the best. As for gear and pricing, dont have a heart attack,

Everyone is getting into MMA because of the UFC. Most people tend to go into jujitsu and muay thai. Before those two became so popular most people would go into Kickboxing. To be honest you should go your own route and try something like Pankration which might actually be one of the oldest forms of fighting. A friend of mine was training in it after he was bored with jujitsu. Google or youtube it and find out more.

there isn’t a type of mixed martial arts, mma isn’t a style it’s simply mixing different styles together, so if you want to do mma, you have to train all types of martial arts, muay thai, wrestling, jiu jitsu, ect

Judo for thowing them down and submitting them, and Kyokushyn for striking like GSP. and maybe BJJ if you want but you don’t NEED to if your already taking Judo
and “martial arts” isn’t a style

For mma the two most popular seems to be Muay Thai and Brazilian Jujitsu. But wrestling, judo and even karate can be good too.
